Kip is Board Certified in Oil, Gas and Mineral Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, and has rendered numerous Title Opinions covering federal, state, tribal and fee lands in the lower 48.

Kip was born and raised in northern Colorado and graduated from the University of Colorado-Boulder with a double-major in History and Philosophy in 1987.  Kip received his law degree from the Duke University School of Law in 1990.

Kip has served as in-house counsel for majors and independents, including Marathon, Texaco, Colorado Interstate Gas, and ExxonMobil.  Kip has also been employed in the oil, gas and natural resources practice groups for local and international law firms in Denver, Houston, and Dallas.  Subsequently, Kip was appointed as general counsel and managing director for several small, public E&P companies with operations in Texas, Utah, and California.  Prior to joining the firm, Kip led his own oil & gas law firm in Dallas for 13 years.

Most recently, Kip was the lead oil & gas attorney chosen to help lead the Texas A&M University System Energy Resource Office which was set up in 2019 to provide management and control over A&M System’s energy related property assets.

Kip moved to Texas in 2000,and has resided in College Station since 2019. Kip loves spending time with his teenage son and elderly German Shepherd.
